I balancae my ailerons by taking a piece of 3/4" electrical conduit the length of the aileron ( less actuator clearance ), pouring it full of lead and spacing it in front of the hinge point as far as would allow full travel of the aileron with foam and glassing over the whole thing with 3 BID.

General comment.  Lancair could have saved about 6 lbs. of total weight (2 ailerons) by extending the balance arm on the counterweight ala Bonanza.  Efficiency wise the 6 lbs. saved would easily compensate for a small protuusion in the air stream.
