Hi all,

Canadian controllers aren't concerned about codes for transborder flights.
As far as I know that is a U.S. requirement  for entering U.S. airspace.

As for the DET to BUF flight. Cleveland center controls a large chunk of Canadian airspace south of YXU
due to the JFK - ORD corridor.  That is probly why you were not handed off to
the Canadian Controllers.  Likewise Canada controls U.S. airspce in the vicinity of
SAult Saint Marie in Northern Michigan as The Canadians have better radar coverage
in that area.

Another unusual thing is VFR above 12,500. In Canada you must obtain a clearance
from ATC to do it.  We treat it like IFR.

I've been a Controller in YYZ center for 25 years.  If you have any questions about
southern Ontario's airspace let me know
