Everybody evaluates risks in different ways -- I got rid of all clear tubing in favor of SS braid covered teflon for safety and long life. BTW, an additional benefit is that the fuel delivery system is grounded because the interconnecting lines are stainless steel and the Facet pumps are grounded.
I have never broken a Facet pump by running it "dry" for a few minutes.
