During a post-flight inspection of the right wheel well this morning I
noticed a fairly deep (not quite through to the nylaflow brake line) chafe
of the sleeve that houses the nylaflow brake line where it enters the top of
the right gear leg. It appeared to have been chafing against one of the
rack through bolts.
Uncorrected, this problem would surely have eventually caused a failure of
the nylaflow brake line. Interestingly, this would have resulted in the
same set of symptoms experienced by the pilot who ran out of runway at
Aspen: no right brake and hydraulic fluid dripping down the right gear leg.
No criticism of nylaflow is intended. I expect the result would be the same
if the brake line were made of stainless steel.
Why did I choose this morning to look in that wheel well? The check's in
the mail Marv.
