An interesting comment from Dan Schaefer on the shortened and rethreaded
wing bolts.
My evaluation is that the load on the wing bolts is only shear. I
assume that that is reason only thin (shear) nuts are called for. The
question is whether the shear strength at the junction of the the aft
side of wing spar and shear box will be decreased by cutting new threads
somewhat more than an inch away.
Other opinions would be appreciated.
