Are V1, V2 and V3 ground speeds? If so, the equation implies that if you can find a high wind day and fly slow enough that V2 becomes zero, your true airspeed will go to infinity!

There is no easier and cheaper to go faster :)

It looks like that was just an average of the four ground speeds.  As winds aloft get stronger, the error will grow.
With three orthogonal ground tracks (not heading), one can get true airspeed and winds aloft.  With four tracks you can cross check for errors.
VTAS = SQRT( V1^2 + V2^2 + V3^2 + V1^2 * V3^2 / V2^2 ) / 2
Wind Component in 1 direction= ( V1 - V3 ) / 2
Wind Component in 2 direction= ( V2 - V1 * V3 / V2 ) / 2
Total Wind = SQRT(W1^2 + W2^2)

Thanks Fred and Ralf. Just bought $200 worth of gap seals recently but we haven't had time to install. The heat gun tip should save some aggravation!

We will let you know how it all works out,
