Cortaulds Aerospace recently sold out their "PRC" line of sealants to DeSoto
International, a subsidiary of PPG. "PRC", or Products Research Corp., came
up with a line of two part sealants many years ago. There are far too many
to describe here. Aircraft Spruce sells only one type and that is "ProSeal
890 Class B-2".
890 is a general purpose sealant for fuel (gasoline), pressurization and
faying laps. There are specific
types available from API and others for windows, kerosene, aviation
gasoline, etc. Class B is thick and
class A is not so thick. The dash is 1/2, 1, or 2 and that is the working
time in hours. I recently made my outflow bucket gasket by doing a "PRC"
release on the bucket flange to have a built in seal. It worked as well as
any micro release. The contents are polysulfide polymer and phenolic resin
powder with calcium carbonate and toluene. SemaKit makes a less expensive
variety now the patent has run out. Try it... you'll like it.
