To expound on what Mike said, I unknowingly used regular caulk on my door seal the first time and after two days, it wasn't holding very well.  Orin happened to be visiting San Diego at the time and stopped by.   He took one look at the seal and easily pulled the whole thing off the door, telling me to clean up the mess (which was considerable) and go get adhesive caulk.   I put the seal back on with the adhesive and it's held perfectly for three years now.
