just the same, if you don't use GUMPF please
use something that forces you to follow a procedure during the landing
phase so we don't get to hear another first-hand story about how tough
these aiplanes really are.<

Will faithful use of the GUMPF reminder prevent  gear up landings?  The
fact is that although better than nothing it will not always.  Proof is in
the statistics and in the exampl;e set by two of my buddies (high time
professional pilots) that recently landed gear up.  It is easy for
something to distract you from your normal flow, passenger gets sick, an
electrical problem, smoke in the cockpit, traffic conflict, etc.  With
encouragement from my humbled buddies, we offer airspeed based gear warners
in all our angle-of-attack instruments.  If the gear is not down below the
landing gear warning speed, you hear a sweet female voice saying "Landing
Gear".  I didn't say sexy, it's more like your mother's voice.  Using a
gear warning does not absolve you from using good C/L discipline.

The Lancair Builders and Flyers forum is in the Sporties Pavilion 5:30
Friday night.  We will be discussing topics of general interest and the Don Goetz roast should be fun too.

See you there,

Jim Frantz
