The fact is that although better than nothing it will not always. Proof is in the statistics and in the exampl;e set by two of my buddies (high time professional pilots) that recently landed gear up. It is easy for something to distract you from your normal flow, passenger gets sick, an electrical problem, smoke in the cockpit, traffic conflict, etc. With encouragement from my humbled buddies, we offer airspeed based gear warners in all our angle-of-attack instruments. If the gear is not down below the landing gear warning speed, you hear a sweet female voice saying "Landing Gear". I didn't say sexy, it's more like your mother's voice. Using a gear warning does not absolve you from using good C/L discipline. The Lancair Builders and Flyers forum is in the Sporties Pavilion 5:30 Friday night.
