Hello Richard:

My name is Brent Regan and I am the fellow who designed the components that
adapt the 540 to the Lancair. I built 8 sets of components, kept one and
sold the other 7 and then sold the tooling to LyCon in Visalia California
(who currently manufactures them). My aircraft N170BR has 560 hours TT, won
the 1996 Great Cross Country Race from Denver to OSH (setting a new record),
and has received many awards including Outstanding Workmanship at OSH. To
date I have experienced none of the engine problems that have been plaguing
the 550 Continentals.

While I have never personally inspected ZK-CTL I have seen numerous photos
and have come to know Chris over the years. All indications are that this is
a well built aircraft and my experience with Chris is that he ALWAYS
emphasizes doing the job right. Flying the plane to Australia and back
certainly speaks to the reliability of this airplane.

My advice to you is the same I give to anyone considering the purchase of a
used aircraft, that is, have it inspected by a qualified but disinterested
third party. This person does not need Lancair experience but knowledge in
composite construction would be desirable.

I am happy to answer any questions you may have about the engine and I am
sure that you will find the Lancair factory eager to assist you as well.

Regards
Brent Regan
