Best TAS I have seen so far (engine only had 27
hrs. SMOH): 207 kts. @ 3,000 msl (2,000 agl), 42*F OAT, 28.5 MAP (WOT),
2700 rpm, 11.5 gph, 1350 EGT (150 ROP).
Typical cruise: 195+ kts. @ 5,500
msl, 50-ish OAT, WOT, 2,500 RPM, 10.5 gph, 1350 EGT.
These speeds were as computed on my KLN-94 TAS
calculator page. The first was also confirmed by flying a box pattern and
averaging the GPS ground speed.
My engine is an IO-320-D1C (stock HP rating 160)
hot-rodded with 10:1 pistons and ported, polished, flow-balanced heads by Lycon,
standard mags. Lycon claims I should be making 180+ hp.
I have the standard gear pressure switches.
My pump would chirp every 10 to 15 minutes in flight until I overhauled my
inboard gear door cylinders (visible leak). Now it chirps maybe once or
twice per hour. I have left the gear up on jacks for 48 hours with
no droop. Just yesterday flew form with a friend (also an L-320) and he
reported my gear doors are nice and flush in flight. I have never seen the
pump chirp on the ground after the initial repressurization on first power up
after more than a few hours since the last pressurization.
I have never had the problem some others have
reported where the gear won't come down unless you fiddle with the dump
valve.
Man I love these little hot-rods!
