Gentlemen:

Some very good points have been raised about the de-ice systems in progress for the IVP.

It bears mention that the Lancair sponsored system appears to be a "get out of jail free" system for emergencies.  So I would assume "known ice" would be a problem with that system.  I had heard that DL Simmons has installed a boot/hot prop system on a IVP for use in finland.  Would be interesting to know how that worked.

It may be that the most viable system would be a combination of boots/hot prop and TKS sprayer for the windscreen?   Any thoughts?

The "cold reality" is that at the altitudes we fly, there is ice present even over Phoenix in the summertime occassionally.
