The chelton screens need cooling.  They over heat and do exactly what you said.  I've flown several airplanes with the same problem but fixed by additional airflow.  The small Dynon does that too.  Most builders put avionics cooling fans in but forget to let the hot air out.  You really have to have small muffin fans on the glareshield to help avoid these kinds of issues.  If you only have say a Dynon as your backup and you lose cooling, then you will likely lose both primary and backup.  Ron
