I just finished installing Bob Archer's SA-005 Transponder/DME antenna in my Lancair 360's tailcone. No, I don't have an installation picture, but Ric Argente does, and I copied his installation as faithfully as I could.
My question is this -- can I use this antenna for both a transponder and a DME at the same time? I couldn't help noticing that there's only one connector on the antenna. Do I use a splitter, and why wouldn't the transmission from the transponder fry the DME receiver, and vice versa? Do I need to install a second antenna, and dedicate one antenna to each unit? (If so, I left room)
I'd like to avoid the "why have DME in the days of GPS" discussion. It's a valid point, but I already have a DME in my Cessna 150 which will move to the Lancair. (I didn't do it! Honest injun! It was in there when I bought the 150! Man, do those numbers click off slowly....)
Thanks in advance for the advice.
