Regardless of whether you love 'em or hate 'em, whether you must have a "L"
or a "C" up front, The horror stories of an old line engine manufacturer,
FAA certificated to boot, screwing up on something as prosaic as proper ring
tension (and adversely affecting engine life) is beyond the realm of
acceptability. Doesn't matter that they maybe will fix it (at pro-rated
costs, naturally) - my engineering sensibilities are offended in a really
ugly way at the thought. And more so considering that the engines were sold
to an unsuspecting public.

The ring thing is only a small part of the many poorly engineered components
continuously put into these engines - bad metallurgy in cranks, rusting and
pitting on starter parts, etc., etc. One only has to look back at the
compendium of AD's over the years (for both L and C) to get the picture.

Sorry guys, 30 to 50K for a new engine ought to buy superior quality, but
obviously doesn't, and we're used to it! Duh! Not hard to understand why
there's so much interest in alternative power plants.
