Hal, Brugemann and List,
I had a novel experience with the wheel cover, ref. fig. 29:B:1 & 7.
Hopefully passing this on to you, the group and Brugemann will
save time and elicit responses which may save us all trouble.
I trimmed the wheel cover to the factory scribe line (where it meets
FS 171 bulkhead) without thinking the factory could be wrong. (Ha!).
Anyway, after further trimming and fitting the wheel cover down
into the lower fus. it became apparent there wasn't enough cover
to cover... so to speak.  I wanted to splice the 1.5" strip back on.
Seeing that as a nasty task that would give away my mistake,
I sought any alternative measure to bail myself out of an ugly
failure.
I believe the solution is at hand.  I heated the wheel cover and
"unbent" it.  You once suggested this to me for another problem.
I put it on the floor with two bits of 4x4 under the Rt & Lt verticals
letting the longer center piece "droop".  I applied the heat inside and out, relaxing the wheel cover.  I used all the lead at hand to
hold it in it's open angle configuration during the heating process.
The result is now the cover has an "open" angle and will reach the
171 bulkhead at the top flange while still covering the wheel well
openings at the belly.  I need to build the support and attach
flanges yet but feel the part will fit.  There is room for the tires to enter and clear with a bit to spare.  The aft end of the baggage floor will have a little convex arc at it's joint with the
wheel cover but that shouldn't be a big deal, just more room
for bags in the "hell hole".
Walter P.
