Some time ago, there was a series of posts which recommended replacement of hinge
pins with a combination of Teflon PTFE spaghetti tubing and stainless pin of a
smaller diameter. McMaster-Carr was listed as a source for the teflon spaghetti
tubing. I ordered McMaster-Carr part number 5335K172 (.066" ID and .090" OD
tubing) from page 633 of their online catalog. Theoretically, .090" teflon tubing
should be a sliding fit into the hinge. My teflon tubing order arrived today and
of course, it DID NOT FIT in the hinge because the average OD when measured,
turned out to be +/- .0985.
So, have any of you experienced the same problem and if so, what was your
solution? Maybe I just got a piece from a bad batch, but when they advertise an ID
and OD measurement to three decimal places, you have an expectation that this is
what they will send to you...right?
I'd much rather be at SnF than working on taxes!
