I have a friend that just bought a Mooney with the IO-550 engine... Problem is that the fuel drain is directly below the injector, which is pointed straight down.  Gary Casey

Gary, TCM service bulletin SIL 00-11A describes an updated cylinder
drain port. The drain is in a bowl-shaped recess on the bottom side of
the cylinder head. The new drain port has a standpipe that sticks up
1/2" into the bowl. This allows an ounce or so of fuel to accumulate in
the bowl before it overflows, reducing the amount of fuel lost through
the drain. My engine was built in 2001, but still had the old-style
drain ports. It is worth checking your friend's Mooney to see which type
he has. The new drains, p/n 655742, list for $28.86 each. -Adam Molny
