Get the quick drain.
Poke a hole in the top-side of the filter with a small screw-driver before
you start the process. Drain the oil. Let the filter oil drain out (takes an
hour). Go eat lunch. You can turn the prop backwards to pump the oil out of
the filter but I never go to this trouble. I'd rather go have lunch. Refill
the crankcase with fresh oil. Remove the old filter that is now empty. You
will not spill a drop if you have waited long enough to let the filter drain.
