Jeff,

That's exactly what I've been working on just today.  I've been messing with this, trying to stop some minor oil leaks for two years now and finally got fed up and decided to pull the oil pan off and re-weld it.  Removing the oil pan requires that i pull the engine.  ;-(

Anyway, I got the pan off and cleaned it up and re-welded anywhere it looked even slightly suspicious.  I'll be sure to pressure test it before reinstalling it on the engine.  The first time I used red RTV, this time I'm using Ultra-Grey.

Good luck on your efforts.

I’ve got an oil leak between the oil pan and aluminum plate that engine block is sitting on.

Root-cause may be one stripped thread boss in the aluminum front cover, right next to exposed tension bolt … any advice for internal thread fixing … hopefully I can do this without having to remove engine, aluminum sub-plate, etc, etc.

Another possible cause is silicone-only used to seal the oil pan … I ordered an oil pan gasket for re-installation.

It happens from time to time, Greg.  A topic gets going and everybody hops in with their 0.02 worth and after we beat it to death (perhaps a couple of times), exhaustion sets in until we’ve recovered our breath (or interest) {:>).  After a few days, someone will post an interesting (or controversial) topic and away we will go again.
