Jeff,

I just finished fixing a leak between the pan and the plate on my 13B.  I was just too cheap with the Permatex Ultra-Grey the first time around.  The rear end on my engine pan (taildragger) is below the oil level at rest, so if there is a leak, it will leak forever.

Finn has it nailed.

I’ve got an oil leak between the oil pan and aluminum plate that engine block is sitting on.

Root-cause may be one stripped thread boss in the aluminum front cover, right next to exposed tension bolt … any advice for internal thread fixing … hopefully I can do this without having to remove engine, aluminum sub-plate, etc, etc.

Another possible cause is silicone-only used to seal the oil pan … I ordered an oil pan gasket for re-installation.

It happens from time to time, Greg.  A topic gets going and everybody hops in with their 0.02 worth and after we beat it to death (perhaps a couple of times), exhaustion sets in until we’ve recovered our breath (or interest) {:>).  After a few days, someone will post an interesting (or controversial) topic and away we will go again.
