I alway thought that silicone was a no-no on all exhaust components.  My turbo says to "Never" use gasket maker on any of the turbo fittings. 
 
But you guys have been using it on the exhaust flange?  I assume on the turbo gaskets as well?  Cool, nice to know it is OK to do that.

There would be a little more to worry about with the turbo perhaps.  On the normal exhaust flange, anything that oozes out into the inside of the pipe gets burned, or blown away.  With a muffler, we don't really care where that blob of silicone goes, but you probably wouldn't want it hitting a turbine wheel.  I think you'd just have to be careful not to get too much near the exhaust hole in the flange.
