Greg, A turbo will fit under the cowl of an RV-8.  The muffler question is a matter of choice.  I fly my turbo RV-6 without a muffler and it is not too loud, but quieter would be nicer.

Wait until your cooling system takes final shape before you decide what form your cowl should take.

Hi all
I'm building an RV8 and I'm would like advice on 3 things.  Will a turbo fit ok under the cowl of the RV8?
With a turbo will I still need a muffler and if I do can I get away with a much small and lighter constructed one without it self destructing by the exaust gas pressure?
Am I better off buying the cowl from Vans with the snorkel out front for extra cooling?
