I just came back from a short trip to Boston, during which I had a most delightful two-hour visit with Angier Ames, who was nice enough to show off his 360 project. This 21st century airplane is being built in the basement garage of a 19th century house. Built in the 1830's, the house is truly a window into the colonial world. It was almost like visiting a museum.
Onto the airplane, I have never seen better fiberglass workmanship! It's nice to see these airplanes in not-finished form, because on the finished ones, the paint and interior hide most of the craftsmanship. Angier is farther along than I am, so I could see how he did many of the details that I'll be struggling with in the next few months. It was also motivational -- while I look at the finished airplanes and wonder if I'll ever get there, this airframe is almost finished and I can actually imagine mine getting there someday. I never would have known about Angier without this e-mail forum. Thanks, Marv, for all your hard work. And thanks, Angier, for the tour.
