I am just about to pour the counterweight for my elevators. I have built a
plaster of paris mold, lined it with hi temp RTV and have been trying to
determine how much tungsten (from Bill Maddox) to include with the lead. I
plan to leave the inboard section as pure lead to enable drilling out any
excess weight when balancing. I have weighed both halves of the left
elevator (trim tab hinge already attached), as well as the trim motor and
its mounting block.
(1) My concern is with the elevator weldment. Since most of the weldment
(except the arm that attaches to the BL3 rib) is along the hinge line I
would conclude that I should not include the weldment in my weight
calculations (but allow a few ounces for the arm).
(2) I know that there was a thread on the LML some time ago about how much
to allow for filler, primer & paint, but I can't seem to locate it. Can
someone please either point me to the relevant posts, or tell me how much to
allow for paint?
Thanks,
