Now that we have over 100 LIV's flying, I would like to take a poll, and also
repeat my observations on the cabin heat (or non-heat?) in my own LIV.
How many of you LIV owners of non-pressurized LIV's can actually get heat
into your cabin when flying with 14-30 inches MP?
If you do, are you bleeding from the "sonic ports" on the back of your
intercoolers?
I have mentioned my problem before--the only time I have heat in my cabin is
when I set my MP to greater than ambient pressure.
Unfortunately, this is not a happy scenario in the cold north when I am in an
area where I don't choose to go several hundred kt/hr, which makes my
passengers start stomping their feet on my nice wool carpet on the floor.
The last time I mentioned this on this site, I heard very few reports of
people with the same problem in their LIV's. Indeed, I apparently was unable
to make a case for the fact that when the engine was at say, 20" MP, there
really shouldn't be hot air coming out of the back of the intercoolers, since
the air pressure around the outside of the engine and plane was higher MP
(according to the height of the plane).
In other words, at 20" MP, the engine is actually sucking air, and why should
I believe that it is producing any push to send hot air into the cabin?
OK, now all you 100+ LIV pilots out there--pressurized cabins excluded--how
are you heating your cabins at slow speeds/low MP?
What is different about your plane than mine?
