I painted the wheel wells in my 320 with Zolotone and did not prime the surface.  The adhesion of the Zolotone was very good.  For what its worth, I Zolotoned the nose gear wheel well also but had some regrets later because there is a "staining" of the nose gear well due to exhaust gas.  If I were to do it over I would make sure to use a gray to dark color in the wells.  I had used a light color which looked great in the main wells but, was a bad color choice in the nose gear well.
