"Has anybody used a product called QCELL? I am not sure that is the correct
spelling. It is supposed to be as strong and easier to work with than flox.
I am looking for a supplier.
Brent Sanchez"
Qcel is a trade name for glass spheres, manufactured by PQ Corporation.
They come in a variety of specific gravities that is directly related to
their wall thickness. They range from a specific gravity from .21 to about
.3. They are really the same as the 'micro' that you now use ( micro
spheres). In fact they are probably either purchased from PQ, 3M, or
another major manufacturer called 'Fillite' They also have other products
that have heavier wall densities, and are actually ceramic and much
stronger. Glass spheres can also be purchased as solid rather than hollow
for high strength needs.
If you are looking for something other than flox for strength, you can
purchase 'milled fibers', which are short strands of fiber glass (think flox
is cotton) that can be had in various lengths from 1/32 to 1/8". Light
weight and strength can be had by using Qcel's ceramic extendospheres. They
have much higher compressive strength and bond very well to the resin
system.
