If I had a prop governor in my shop I could probably answer this question myself, but I don't.  Lancair just sent me the cables I need for mixture and prop (throttle is on backorder).  I notice that their catalog shows solid wire prop cables for the two place airplanes and the 10-32 threaded end prop cable for the IV and ES, and in fact, they sent me a solid wire prop cable and a 10-32 threaded end mixture cable.

Now, I assume they know a lot more about this than me (they usually do) and that they sent me what I need (they usually do this too), but I wonder about the following:

1) Why can't you use the 10-32 threaded end prop cable with the two place Lancairs?  I'll have an IO-360 with either a McCauley or MT prop governor,  located back by the magnetos, with a long engine mount.

2)  Am I correct in my assumption that a threaded-end cable gives you a more secure connection than a solid wire cable, which ultimately depends on the friction of something grabbing the wire?  Less likely to slip or break?

3)  Relative to the detailed thread of a couple of months ago, what was the resolution on which terminator to use and which to avoid?  Is the "bolt type terminal" (Aircraft Spruce P/N 05-16100, page 155), the "cable end B-nut" (Aircraft Spruce P/N 05-162x0, page 155), or the "wire grip" pin vise (Aircraft Spruce P/N 05-16000, page 155) the one to use?  All I remember is that one causes the wire to break and one doesn't.  Actually, it looks like the pin vise style would be the problem child.

4)  Is it enough to use a "cable safe" (no-slip grip) at the firewall and another cable clamp adjacent to the forward end of the cable?  I would think so...

Thanks, guys.  You know, I was pleased with myself the other day.  Last year I looked at engine installations and said "Wow, what IS all that stuff?"  Yesterday I looked at an RV-6 at Santa Paula with it's cowling removed and could trace down every wire and plumbing line and know what it was.  But it seems there's still more to learn...
