isolate the bad or damaged blocks to retain their usefulness?
theoretically one could add dummy files that occupy the bad parts so only the good parts are free for new data. This would
work because SmartMedia cards don’t have ware leveling code like every other solid state mem device.
give me access to reformatting whatever is in the D: drive?
just because a tiny part of the card with directory information
is readable doesn’t mean there aren’t some holes in the data
portion of the card.
also, hardware does go bad, I have seen some SmartMedia readers in CFS
go bad, in fact one of mine requires a reset after boot
(two finger salute) to reset the reader to recognize a SmartMedia card.
