Steve,

I do have foam compressed in the flap pocket. I use gap seals. I also use  ziz zag tape in certain spots that need help in keeping the flow attached.

Lee Behel also changed the shape of the fuselage to try and reduce drag. We refer to it as the whale belly.

The real secret for increased speed is…….. “BRUTE POWER”!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! However, drag reduction and a slick surface helps the brute power go faster.

I use normal flap procedures at Reno. Darryl Greenamyers’s Legacy doesn’t have flaps.

Lynn,

When it comes to saving money, I don’t care how much it costs (smiley face).  You Reno racers have found a lot a little tweaks that we could use in our “everyday Legacies”.   What speed secrets can you share?

Steve,

I applaud to on trying to increase speed by drag reduction. However, suggesting that the “everyday Legacy” can gain 40 knots of airspeed by doing so is a bit of a reach. Unless of course you want to fly around with a higher than 10:1 compression ratio and 3000 RPM? (:

OK Doug, here’s another 4 for you.  Put Home Depot Compressible Foam Tape in the wing trailing edge flap pocket.  I have been planning to do this but just haven’t got around to it.  Put in 8 more “tricks” and you are up 40 KNOTS!  Don’t laugh you guys, Lee Behel did it at Reno.

Any bets on the improvement with gap seals, etc?  I am guessing 4 knots.
