Paul,

My guess is gap seal tape on flaps would flutter and remove itself when the flaps were not full up.  Maybe the flow between the wing and the flap will remove foam tape too, I will report back.  I filled the lower wing trailing edge with micro leaving about 1/16” gap with the flaps up after paint.  I have more fore/aft play in the flap up position than I like too.  I hope the foam tape will address that.  The Reno racers tape the top and bottom of flaps (or eliminate flaps and brackets) then do no flap takeoffs and landings.  Drag reduction is such a win-win-win with more speed, range and fuel savings we should work it for all its worth.

Steve, that's my problem on my Legacy.  I just noticed I've got some fore/aft play in the flaps when UP, so I checked that gap and it is almost 1/4 inch at the leading edge of the flap inside that pocket.  The other flap is tighter.  Wouldn't a gap seal tape on the bottom of the wing be more efficient than plugging the gap inside?

OK Doug, here’s another 4 for you.  Put Home Depot Compressible Foam Tape in the wing trailing edge flap pocket.  I have been planning to do this but just haven’t got around to it.  Put in 8 more “tricks” and you are up 40 KNOTS!  Don’t laugh you guys, Lee Behel did it at Reno.

Any bets on the improvement with gap seals, etc?  I am guessing 4 knots.
