I have vivid memories of dropping off to sleep over Nevada resting in the right boom 'couch' during a training flight in the great KC135 from Fairchild, WA to Tinker AFB. What a way to fly! We had no tanker fuel, took off like a rocket making the trip in just over two hours in 1957.
After boarding and seated in the side mounted 'canvas' row the loadmaster says, "I know you guys are used to hearing the usual safety briefing but this baby can fly on one engine and we have three to spare. Plus we only have a light load of fuel. Just sit back and enjoy the flight". And enjoy the flight we did!
Great to hear they will remain airborne for another 60 years or so.
