| Interesting article. It's not, nor does it pretend to be an analysis of the whole safety problem. I agree with Hamid the pilots are the main variable. However, pilots and their recency of experience are affected by the ridiculous cost of certificated parts. If it costs too much to fly, pilots don't fly enough. If it costs too much to put an auto-pilot in, it doesn't go in. etc.
FAA needs to think more about "safe-er" in terms of real outcomes and less about "legally defensible". |
