Valin & Allyson,

I'm glad to see Blue Sea picking up that Tyco line, but there is a wide variety of Tyco products with full specs available.  You might want to look those over and understand the differences.  Blue Sea seems to want to pretend they made them and in the process obscure a lot of useful information.   e.g. like which Tyco model number is that.  Notably, Tyco came out with the LEV series after doing the EV series of Kilovacs.  The LEV is cheaper, has lower specs, and doesn't have the diodes internally.   But it might be a good match for the hydraulic pump.

Also, in a recent post I made, Eric opined that Gigavac has moved ahead of Tyco in terms of overall desirability.

have fun!

Hello LML gang,

With all the discussion regarding contactors/relays for starters, battery masters, and hydraulic pumps, we’ve been planning on using this Blue Sea contactor for the battery master and starter (http://www.bluesea.com/products/9012/L_Solenoid_-_12_24V_DC_250A ).  Now thinking about using it for the hydraulic pump.  It was recommended a few years ago by someone on the LML and looks very capable.  We already have several of them and they look very well made – targeted toward marine applications though on the outside it looks like aerospace quality.  Still planning on diode snubbers.  Fairly heavy though at 1 lb each.

Does anyone see any problems using this same contactor/relay in each of these applications?  Comments, thoughts…?
