I have seen the gold coating used on full face shields along with aluminized reflective fire fighting suits. Several months ago I phoned a few fire stations but no one there had any knowledge of the gold coating.  I intend to pursue the search again.  The only thing that concerned me was how to apply a non-elatsic sheet onto a compound curve.
