I hear you and would agree, but the problem is that sometimes a $50.00 solution has unintended consequences. Surrounding ourselves with additional complexity while at first is appealing, in many instances isn't a good solution. I find that surrounding myself with safety ropes and other risk-limiting devices can sometimes just get in the way, and I'm not personally convinced that there is a real problem here. People of hurt and killed themselves for any number of reasons. Just be careful out there, I just think the current design is just fine.
Thanks
Kevin

Drama or not, I'm more for reducing the accident rate concerning the people who actually fly than getting them acquainted with Mr. Darwin.
If there's a $50 solution to this problem, why not?

This isn't a big deal to me. I don't think drama surrounding the canopy is needed or deserved.
It has been shown that while tricky, the airplane is controllable if you happen to leave the canopy open. Just don't stop flying the airplane. Better yet, don't leave it unlocked.
