I use an iPad at American and we're ALWAYS required
to have a back up battery to use as a power charging source. We never use
the iPad for navigation. It's only to use for aircraft or operational
manuals and Jepps. Soon we'll be adding 3G usage to download flight
documents and check WSI weather on the ground. I'm not sure if we'll be
approved for using in flight internet for downloading documents, but I wouldn't
bet against it.
