Airlines are only allowed to use it for chart purposes. They are forbidden from turning on the ownship feature.  So it's not even allowed for helping with situational awareness. Also are required to have 2 on board. And in some cases are also required to have a spare charging battery available in the cockpit.

If its good enough for American Airlines then I'm probably ok too.   Why don't you send your estimate of reliability to AA for a comment?  Unless you know more than the airline does...
