You guys are arguing apples and oranges. The ipad is a great paper chart/ approach plate replacement and it can do moving map as well (er umm most of the time) BUT it is not an EFIS. The PFD/ MFD boxes display more than the ipad ever will. Engine data, air data, and reliable flight data propapbly never will be displayed on the ipad. I can shoot an approach safely with an EFIS system. I cannot with just an ipad. If the ipad craps out-- so what. If the EFIS craps ---that's a different story. So, what is better-- an apple or an orange. ;)

you usually grace us with interesting stats and data we can chew on.  unfortunately,  this post adds little meat to either argument and zero backup to the  "spend more equals better reliability and function" nonsense we get from the certified box makers.   

If its good enough for American Airlines then I'm probably ok too.   Why don't you send your estimate of reliability to AA for a comment?  Unless you know more than the airline does...
