Berni,
There was quite a dialog on this in the last couple of years too. CAUTION -- the tiedown rings on the wings will NOT serve as jack pads unless the builder specially modified the structure for that purpose. Evidently at least one owner has damaged wing structure trying to jack a stock Legacy with jack pads screwed into the tiedown holes.
The manual recommends wooden blocks with foam padding pressed up against the lower wing surface directly under the main spar -- and this is what I do -- just outboard of the wing split line, which keeps it clear of the main gear swing. In my case (stock Legacy / IO550), the tail then wants to fall so I use the saddle that came with the builder's rotisserie, which is a nice padded strap that slings under the rear fuselage -- placed there snugly *before* I start jacking.

I have jacks and jack pads for my Legacy but have never jacked one. Will I need weight to hold the tail down? Should I use the tail tie down to fasten to weight?
