hi there

here is what i know about an engine failure and sink rate.

prop full rpm-flat (take off configuration)                      SINK RATE 1,800 FPM
prop low rpm (low cruise setting)                                    SINK RATE    900 FPM

yes i know your numbers will differ

LANDING NO POWER

with a low prop setting (900fpm).

COME OVER LANDING POINT 3,000ft  ABOVE IT.
make 30-45 degree turns will put you on the threshold with space to land.

TO BEST SURVIVE AN ENGINE FAILURE, GET THE PROP TO THE LOWEST
RPM YOU CAN MANAGE UNDER THE CIRCUMSTANCES.

look at a failure at 300 feet AGL
 touchdown with low rpm
                                   20 SECONDS

with high rpm prop                                           TEN SECONDS

AND,
i wouldn't mind having a lower stall speed under of these circumstances.

p,s,
my motivation is both generous and selfish.

generous to share my knowledge and keep others aware and safe if possible
selfish, get a better accident rate and get lower insurance costs and a better reputation for my Lancair
