GPS Antenna Location

As long as it has a clear hemispherical view, horizon to horizon, e.g., not
blocked by metal or other radio-opaque materials such as a graphite skin, it
should work just fine. Ultra-short antenna cables don't seem to be necessary
(within reason) with a good GPS antenna - I've located mine just behind the
roll-over bulkhead in the center (I have a glass airframe) on a small
aluminum plate and I get very good S/N readings with it - in other words, no
drop outs. I'm using a King KLX-135A GPS/Com and the antenna that came with
it.

I put mine there because I would have had to locate it (behind the panel) to
one side of the radio stack and it wouldn't have had a clear view of the
horizon to the left of the airplane.
