Keep in mind I was adding motor oil to reduce the octane rating of the
fuel.
Yeah, that's why it works. Even though the oil is harder to ignite (you
can't set it on fire easily) it cracks under heat and pressure during
combustion into unstable compounds and lowers the octane rating.
Now Paul, that diesel fuel you put into your truck tank was designed to
run in an engine that produces combustion by compression alone, right?
Adding diesel fuel to your high octane fuel will LOWER your octane rating
for the same reason listed above. I dunno about the more power out of lower
octane, but the above is straight out of the book.
The title if the book is "Internal Combustion Engines" by Edward F.
Obert. It is copyrighted '44, '50 and '68 and this is a second printing from
1968. It is too old to have an ISBN but its Library of Congress Catalog Card
Number is 68-16128. It has a "Standard Book Number" 7002 2183 2. It's 730+
pages of fantastic info.  Mike C.
