<< Lancair Builders' Mail List >>
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<--->>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
I was interested in Byron Fox's mail re the A&P/ CFI who has experience on
the 360. I know that Lancair offer training as well as pre first flight
inspection and I would love to take them up on it. My problem is that the
cost to bring one of their reps all the way to Canada is high. Secondly to
keep him hanging about while I fixed snags and then to expect that the plane
will perform flawlessly and the weather cooperate whilst he is giving me
training is to stretch the envelope of Murphy's law more than a little.
Even at the rate of $200/day I could well be into well over a $1000 plus the
expenses. Granted my own plane's time is "Free" but even at that the cost
is high and there is no guarrantee that I would get the training I need in a
reasonable time frame.
Having said all that is there anyone on the east or even in the north
central area of the US who has the aircraft , willingness and the
qualifications to provide some time in type? I believe your regulations now
permit payment for such training.
Failing the above are there any 360 builders in the north east/north central
area who need training and could host a factory rep over say a 5 day period.
This would at least allow us to share his expenses.
I live just north of the US border/ New York state in Kingston Ontario and
interstate 81 is my access to the US. I do not think that I will be ready
for either the first pre flight or the training before the spring of 2001
but I would like to hear from other people in my part of the world who
either are in the same situation as me or who have a line on would be
trainers. Maybe we could put somethig together. If Byron thinks that it
might be worthwhile to talk to his contact perhaps he could send me his
address/phone number.
Incidentally does anyone know the status of the factory 360 and when it
might be serviceable?
Regards
Ian Crowe.
