I have an Aero Composites prop with a McCauley hub. About 6 months ago I started seeing either oil or grease streaks on the front of the upper cowling. I cleaned them off and they didn't appear again for a while. After my last flight I saw more streaks and took off the spinner. There was about 1/2 of a teaspoon of grease on the inside. The McCauley only holds about 1 tablespoon of grease and has no refill fittings.

I have grounded the plane until I can have the local prop shop reseal the prop. The shop estimates about $800 for the reseal.

I bought my MT constant speed (hydraulic) prop several years ago.  Possibly 6 years -- I'd have to check.  I am not yet flying.  1)  What would symptoms be of a propellor that needed work?  Exuding grease during operation?  What should I be looking for during my initial flights?  What characteristic would cause me to say "Whoops!  Better stop flying and send the prop to Florida right now" ?

2)  How much does a prop inspection cost?  I could envision a flight to Florida when the initial flight test period is complete.
