I have a friend that has a Legacy that would not build one without them. He routinely would get static build up in light mist and clouds until he installed them. He got tired of repairing expensive avionics. I dont think he has had the problem since he installed them. I doubt you would have the problem if you were flying VMC but you will get build up if you plan to fly in moisture. I fly a 235/320 and have only been zapped once in the cockpit. It happened just like my friend described, going fast in light rain, above 180 or so knots. Slow down and it wont do it. I got zapped from my head to the back of the canopy frame. My Dynon's lived through it.. If I planned to fly in moisture routinely, going above 180 KTS I would definetaely install them.. I am a fair weather flyier so no need for me. Besides, I am not nearly as fast as the Legacy
crowd..

My Legacy does not have static wicks. I bought it used and have flown it for about 180 hours. I have dual cheltons. I haven’t seen any problems attributable to static build up. I would like to hear what avionics equipment you have installed and if it is affected at any stage. Happy to hear from anyone for or against the idea of flying the Legacy without static wicks.
