He= routinely would get static build up in light mist and clouds until he inst= alled them. He got tired of repairing expensive avionics. I dont think he has had the p= roblem since he installed them. I doubt you would have the problem if you were flying VMC but you will get = build up if you plan to fly in moisture. I fly a 235/320 and have only been zapped once in the cockpit. It happened = just like my friend described, going fast in light rain, above 180 or so kn= ots. Slow down and it wont do it. I got zapped from my head to the back of the canopy frame. My Dynon's lived= through it.. If I planned to fly in moisture routinely, going above 180 KTS I would defi= netaely install them.. I am a fair weather flyier so no need for me. Besides, I am not nearly as f= ast as the Legacy crowd.. FWIW..
