I went south to Saint Simons Island, Ga on Tuesday, 12/28/10. On Friday, 12/31/10, while preflighting I noticed that the right main tire was at 25 psi rather than the 70 psi that I had when I took off last time.
My prior flat was on the left main. The right main has been on and OK and nitrogen filled for the last 8 to 12 months.
Before pulling the wheel, the mechanic, who just so happened to have a new bag of them, suggested that I try changing the Schrader valve.
I changed the valve on Friday, 12/31/10. Today, after flying back to Detroit, and 2 landings, the tire still has full pressure. I am so happy that I didn't have to change the tire prematurely.
Although always suggested, I have never seen a Schrader valve go bad at mid tire life. From now on, I will be carrying a couple of spare Schrader valves, just in case.

Scott,
After my last flat (just like yours) at about 40 psi, I talked to Dresser and queried the LML. 6 out of 10 from the LML and Dresser thought that 70 PSI would be OK. I am now keeping the tires at 60 to 70 psi. The ride is rough but I haven't had a flat yet.
So far the wear pattern still looks good.
On the inside of my old tire, you could see the thread coming through the rubber. I sent the tire back to Desser and they sent me a new tire and tube. Good customer service.

235/320/360 Tires, Legacy nose tire:
Well, I did it..... I let my Lancair 320's main tire pressure hover around 40+ psi and the left main tube was wearing on the inboard side even though I am using Desser tires. Same old pinhole tube leak result when I found it flat.

.
I will endeavor to keep the pressure at least at 48-50 psi.
BTW, I also bought replacement tires and tubes from Desser - interesting...........
The old tire was marked:
Light Sport Experimental Aircraft Use
Max Speed 62 MPH
The new tire:
Max Speed 100 MPH
Made in Vietnam
Both had the same information:
Load Range D
Load Rating 500 Lbs @ 70 psi
Tubeless
The tubes were different also in that the old stem was marked "Rim master" and the new one with "Whitehorse". The new one also had "Leak Guard" and "Butyl Tube" printed on it.
Oh well, they have the same part number. Time will tell if the new ones are better.
